Last Two Weeks

As it always is before any move, the last few weeks and days were hectic.  I never knew that moving could be so much of a social event.  In the last nine days, we probably saw more of our friends than in the last two years combined.  I would like to thank everyone who came and helped us pack, paint, made a meal for our family or any other help that was given.  Every ounce of help was a blessing to us and made our move easier.  Thank you all.

This is how the last weeks unfolded:

Friday – Dad gots back from Alaska and we have going away party at church.

Saturday - We pack like crazy.  I played the bagpipes at the Scottish Festival in the afternoon.

Sunday – We went to church and spent the rest of the day packing.

Monday (Memorial Day) – Pack, work, eat, and pack some more.  In the evening we had another party with more friends.

Tuesday – Movers came.  This was an adventure all on its own.  At 8:30 the moving truck showed up in our drive way.  Two guys got out and before they had seen anything but the garage, the looked at each other and said “Only two guys?”  They ended up packing as much as possible, but it was still probably only 15% of the job.

Wednesday – Movers return, this time with five guys.  The container arrived at 9:00 am and was supposed to leave at 3:00 pm.  Unfortunately, not enough work got done on Tuesday, and they ended up packing till 8:30 pm.  Not exactly what anyone planned.  At this point, we were staying out at my grandma’s house in Junction City.

Thursday – Painting and cleaning all day long.

Friday – Made huge dump run with four trailers.  More painting.  Carpet guys came and replaced all our carpet.  Friends came and helped with yard work and other odd jobs.  Spent evening with more friends who we had not seen in quite a while.

Saturday – We finished painting and had the cleaners come.  They stayed till 10:30pm!  We also did more sorting.  The movers left more stuff behind than they should have, so…  We had to get rid of more stuff.  Had dinner with more friends.

Sunday – Church again.  Said bye to all of our church friends.  Took load of things out to our grandma’s house to sort.  We still had too much stuff to take with us.

Monday – We were supposed to leave on Monday, but we decided on Saturday that we still had too much to do.  Spent day sorting and packing small utility trailer.  Made another trip to the dump and finished up some errands around town.

Tuesday – We left Eugene – Look at my next post for more information about our exciting adventure!
